Spider Vein Treatment
Spider veins can be eliminated through a minor injection technique called sclerotherapy. A small needle is used to inject a solution into the vein which causes it to close and no longer be visible.
Sclerotherapy of spider veins and smaller cosmetic veins is not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or the Régie de l’assurance maladie Québec (RAMQ). Spider vein treatment costs can be submitted to personal health insurance but are rarely reimbursed.
Varicose Vein Treatment
Varicose and larger problem veins can be treated by an office based procedure called ultrasound guided sclerotherapy. A solution is injected into the vein with the use of an ultrasound which allows for more accurate treatments leading to better results and lower risks. The procedure causes the vein to close, resulting in an improvement of symptoms as well as appearance.
Sclerotherapy of larger veins are most often covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) and a portion of the treatment appointment can be covered under the Régie de l’assurance maladie Québec (RAMQ). Vein treatments that are not covered under RAMQ or OHIP can be submitted to personal health insurance for possible reimbursement.
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT)
Endovenous Laser Ablation is a minimally invasive procedure for treatment of large malfunctioning veins. It involves closure of the vein using localized heat of a laser fiber under ultrasound guidance. Symptoms as well as appearance of varicose veins often improve within days after the procedure. EVLT has become a popular alternative to the older vein surgery as a safer and more effective way to treat large veins with virtually no downtime.
Endovenous laser ablation is unfortunately not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or the Régie de l’assurance maladie Québec (RAMQ). The cost of the procedure can be submitted to personal health insurance for possible reimbursement.
Compression Stockings
Graduated compression stockings are vital in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency and problem veins. They are an essential part of post-procedure care as well as most often recommended to be worn on a regular basis in order to improve your circulation.
We provide on-site custom fitting for prescription strength graduated compression stockings. We have a variety of styles and compression strengths to fit everyone’s needs.
Most insurance companies will cover a portion if not all of the cost of the stockings and will typically allow for multiple pairs per year. Your insurance company might ask for a doctor’s prescription for reimbursement, therefore a prescription will be provided to you if it is appropriate.
